Gamma Spectroscopy with Germanium Detectors
نویسنده
چکیده
The MAJORANA collaboration[1] aims to detect neutrino-less double beta decay (0νββ) in Ge, using an array of germanium p-type point contact detectors. An important factor in this effort is the minimization of backgrounds from any hardware which is needed to operate the detectors. In order to best understand and minimize this background, one must analyze the gamma spectrum from these pieces of hardware.

Development of Germanium Strip Detectors for Environmental Remediation1
We present the initial results of the first germanium strip detector array for the imaging and high-resolution spectroscopy of gamma-ray sources. The array consists of four detectors, 5 x 5 x 1 cm each with 25 strips on each side. The detectors are daisy-chained to hybrid preamplifiers to reduce the number of channels of electronics. Good spectroscopy and imaging are achieved. We also present r...
متن کاملPosition-sensitive germanium detectors for gamma-ray imaging and spectroscopy
Gamma-ray imaging with position-sensitive germanium detectors offers the advantages of excellent energy resolution, high detection efficiency, and potentially good spatial resolution. The development of the amorphous-semiconductor electrical contact technology for germanium detectors has simplified the production of these position-sensitive detectors and has made possible the use of unique dete...
متن کاملSpectroscopy with next generation scintillator arrays
Historically, gamma-ray spectroscopy has transitioned from using scintillator detectors with high efficiency but relatively low energy resolution to germanium detectors with high intrinsic energy resolution but much lower intrinsic efficiency. Next-generation scintillator materials such as lanthanum bromide, cerium bromide have become available over the last decade offering significantly improv...
متن کاملComparisons of the DSPEC and DSPEC Plus Spectrometer Systems
A previous experimental evaluation’ of nine commercial gamma-ray spectroscopy systems demonstrated significant benefits of digital signal processing for improvements in the performance of high-resolution gamma-ray spectroscopy systems. Spectacular improvements in the energy resolution and throughput of germanium detectors were demonstrated for the DSPEC. Recently, a new, improved version of DSP...
متن کاملComparisons Between Digital Gamma Ray Spectrometer (DSPEC) and Standard Nuclear Instrumentation Methods (NIM) Systems
Up until about a year ago, gamma-ray spectroscopy has always been done using the analog amplifier, which processes the pulses from the preamplifier to remove the noise, reject the pile-up signals, and shape the signals into some desirable form before sending them to the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) to be digitized. In late 1996, EG&G Ortec introduced a digital gamma-ray spectrometer (DSPec...
